The King of Comedy (1983)
Rupert Pupkin (De Niro), a stage-door autograph hound, is an aspiring  stand-up comic with obsessive ambition far in excess of his  still-budding talent. After an accidental meeting with Jerry Langford  (Lewis), a famous comedian and talk show host, Rupert believes his “big  break” has finally come. He attempts to get a place on the show, but is  continually rebuffed by Langford’s staff and, finally, by Langford  himself.

MEAN STREETS (1973)
In a series of character-led incidents set against the background of New  York City’s Little Italy, we follow the life of Charlie, a small-time  member of the wiseguy community who collects protection money. His  friends Tony and Michael are part of the community, but his other friend  Johnny Boy is unreliable and therefore must be shunned. Charlie’s  secret girlfriend Teresa has epilepsy, and so must also be shunned. When  Charlie’s uncle Giovanni offers him a restaurant - the first step up  the ladder - Charlie is forced to choose between his desire for power,  his love for Teresa and his duty to protect his friend Johnny Boy.

Dr Martin (Robert Powell) arrives at a secluded asylum “for the incurably insane” to be interviewed for a job by the wheelchair-using, authoritarian Dr Lionel Rutherford (Patrick Magee). Rutherford explains that he owes his current incapacitation to an attack by an inmate. Rutherford reveals his unorthodox plan to determine Martin’s suitability for the post of head Doctor. One of the asylum’s current inmates is Dr B. Starr, the former head doctor who underwent a complete mental breakdown. Martin is to interview the inmates of the asylum to deduce which one is Dr Starr. If his choice is correct Rutherford will “consider” him for the post.

James Clayton (Colin Farrell), a computer programming expert at MIT, is recruited by senior CIA instructor Walter Burke (Al Pacino)  to test for a position with the agency. Clayton agrees, in part, to  find information concerning his father who he suspects was a CIA  operative that disappeared when Clayton was a child. After passing  numerous psychometric, psychoanalytical, aptitude, and polygraph tests, Clayton is taken to The Farm,  a CIA training facility. There, Burke and other instructors teach the  candidates the skill sets of espionage, covert operation protocols, and  intelligence gathering techniques. During a surveillance exercise,  Clayton and fellow recruit Layla Moore (Bridget Moynahan) are kidnapped by men apparently from a foreign intelligence service.
